Meet the Apron Team

Bio

Jenny leads the Apron team for all of the agency’s food and beverage clients. She brings 15 years of food industry promotion and brand protection experience to the role. Over that time, she has consulted with a wide variety of food clients, including hospitality and quick-service restaurants, wines and spirits makers, and a wide range of agriculture commodities including beef, shrimp, eggs, corn and grapes.

Jenny is a brand builder. Her expertise in marketing strategy and planning, messaging, media relations, digital and social media, community relations, and internal and corporate communication allows her to design fully integrated campaigns capable of moving audiences.

Jenny also protects brands as an expert in crisis communications and issues management, particularly in food safety, including risk analysis and crisis communication preparation. She is certified in predictive media training and manages the firm’s 24/7 on-call crisis communication service for several Apron clients.

Bio

Jeff Hahn, a nearly 30-year public relations practitioner, is the founding partner of Apron and its partner agencies.

Jeff grew up on a farm in northeast Iowa, and he translates that formative experience into crafting messages for, and connecting dots between, food clients and new business opportunities. With significant issues management expertise, he is close at hand when food safety notification work is required.

Bio

A graduate of the Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, Russ is an exceptionally effective media relations practitioner for food clients in the grocery and QSR space. His 20 years as a reporter equipped him to intuitively understand reporter angles and media behaviors. Russ’ has connected clients with publications such as Business Week and The New York Times, as well as broadcast networks including CNN and NBC.

Russ also helps clients get the most out of their media interviews by leading our spokesperson message training workshops. He conducts more than 100 media training workshops every year for national-level clients such as Whole Foods Market and Whataburger. Russ also oversees the firm’s video production and interactive media department and has produced award-winning video news releases and other video projects for clients.

Bio

Laura joined the Apron Team to lead Integrated Strategy for our clients. She brings 14 years of experience with Whole Foods Market, where she led the company’s Southwest regional marketing team and oversaw 43 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. She developed and drove strategic marketing plans and media relations for 22 store openings over a five-year period and built social media channels and digital marketing campaigns for the retailer.

Prior to Whole Foods Market, Laura spent 8 years with the U.S. Olympic Committee leading their Broadcast Marketing Team. Previous roles included supporting Flowers Foods with video production needs at a communications agency in Florida as well as serving as a guest communications specialist for Walt Disney World.

Denise is a 30-year communications veteran, specializing in food, wine and travel public relations. She has managed PR and marketing programs for clients including Whole Foods Market, Texas Department of Agriculture Wine Marketing Program, Texas Fine Wine, NatureSweet, Dr. Kracker, 4.0 Cellars, DrinkLocalWine.com, HomeAway and BedandBreakfast.com, among others.

She has extensive relationships with national consumer media (food, wine, lifestyle, travel, women’s) as well as regional and local media. She also works with online lifestyle sites and bloggers to promote client news and story ideas to specific audiences. She conducts regular deskside briefings with NYC-based media on behalf of her clients.

Clarke moved to Austin in 1992 where she opened and ran the Austin office of Fleishman Hillard for six years. Prior to that, she worked in Washington, DC for 10 years at various PR agencies and at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Libba’s years of hands¬-on experience allow her to quickly develop strategies and set the direction for communication. She also addresses crisis preparedness – from leading executive media trainings to running rapid response efforts – to avoid, or minimize and respond to, clients’ worst-case scenarios. Bio

Tim works with clients to develop strategies to stay ahead by leveraging the latest innovations and thinking in integrated mobile and AI marketing strategies with a focus on food and nutrition, health tech, and mobile retail brand customer experiences. Tim has led the development of integrated marketing strategies for clients including Kraft Foods, ConAgra Foods, Darden Restaurants, Hershey’s, Cleveland Clinic and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology.

For Kraft Foods, Tim led the social content marketing launch of Kraft’s MiO, a liquid water enhancer, through a one-of-a-kind comedian influencer campaign in partnership with The Second City. He’s led the management of Darden Restaurant’s corporate social handles, content creation, and metrics reporting. Specifically for Darden, to meet their need for improved employee retention and talent acquisition, Tim’s team used social listening and web analytics data to uncover a powerful employee storytelling approach which led to the development of an ongoing recruitment video series known as the ‘Faces of Darden.’ For HHS/ONC, Tim led the overall strategic direction for the communications campaign promoting the nationwide adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) under the HITECH Act including the creation of HealthIT.gov. The campaign won numerous awards, most notably PRWeek Best Public Sector Campaign of the Year and a Gold SABRE Award for research and measurement.

Tim is a member of Google’s Public Sector Advisory Council and an active thought leader in Austin’s booming AI technologies community.

As Apron’s New York representative, Mindy offers 12+ years of experience in hospitality, food, wine & spirits public relations. A media relations machine and passionate storyteller, her relationships run the gamut across all markets. Whether it’s The New York Times, The Washington Post or The TODAY Show, Mindy has her finger on the pulse of what excites the media.

With vast experience as a media relations strategist at PR agencies in both NYC & Boston, Mindy has guided publicity for countless restaurants as well as James Beard nominated chefs and restaurateurs like 2013 Food & Wine Best New Chef Jose Enrique and San Francisco restaurateur Anna Weinberg. She has also managed media relations for high-profile, red carpet VIP openings for celebrity brothers Mark, Donnie and Chef Paul Wahlberg’s national burger concept Wahlburgers and played an integral role in building the brand’s national press profile.

Among some of her favorite clients are the food, wine & spirit brands where she’s been responsible for garnering significant top tier press around a myriad of campaigns and launches. Those brands include Egan’s Irish Whiskey, The Bitter Truth, Mezcal El Silencio, Cannonball Wine Co., Cape Classics premium wine importer, LaTienda.com, Hilliards Chocolates and Jacobsen Salt Co. Dr. Garrett brings 30 years of leadership and business experience in agriculture, food and nutrition. She currently serves as a senior associate at agricultural consulting firm The Context Network. Prior to her current role, Dr. Garrett held various US and global leadership roles in the Monsanto Dairy and Monsanto Corporate Engagement businesses, the Kellogg Company and McCain Foods, working with executives, scientists and policy-makers to advocate for science-based food policy and communications. Today she focuses her time on management and strategy consulting for food and agriculture entities at The Context Network.

Dr. Kapica’s experience focuses on bridging the gap between scientific, academic and policy worlds. In her time as Global Director of Nutrition at McDonald’s, she led worldwide nutrition efforts to develop and promote health and wellness initiatives in 118 countries. At the Quaker Oats Company, she developed and implemented science-based programs to promote the health benefits of oatmeal and breakfast to health professionals and consumers.

In 2012, Dr. Kapica founded and continues to lead The Awegrin Institute, an independent public health consultancy, which uses a global perspective to tackle issues on food, nutrition and health policy.
